Table Mountain
Table Mountain in Cape Town is not only one of the most majestic and scenic mountains in the world, it also offers a number of excellent cycling paths and biking trails for travelers who like to get off the beaten track. Situated on the edge of the city bowl, this network of trails run along the lower slopes of Table Mountain, connecting with the Tafelberg Contour Road. These trails are accessible from either Deer Park in Vredehoek or Tafelberg Road off Kloofnek road.
Tygerberg MTB Trails
Tygerberg is a good alternative to the network of mountain biking trails in the Tokai plantation. The Tygerberg MTB club has designed an integrated network of trails in the Tygerberg / Belville area of Cape Town. It combines over 120 km of linked trails in and around the Durbanville hills of Cape Town. Managed by the Tygerberg MTB Club, the system of trails include Majik Forest, Hillcrest, Meerendal, Contermanskloof, and Hoogekraal which are linking trails across the land that does not offer trails and are accessible only to members. Meerendal, Contermanskloof, and Hoogekraal, on the other hand, operate a day permit system.
Rhebokskloof
Rhebokskloof is another great riding spot for all levels of skill and fitness. It offers riders of all skill levels the opportunity to ride among the vineyards and some natural granite features of Paar. It features long stretches of flowing single-track and the panoramic views of the Paarl valley. Depending on the time of year and on the biker’s fitness level, riders can choose between a 14km and 21km options. During summer months, this trail can be uncomfortable to ride. Nevertheless, the amazing panoramic views from the top of the hill makes this a very rewarding piece of MTB heaven. This is why Rhebokskloof is one of the top mountain biking trails.
Rhodes Estate Cycle Trail
Rhodes Estate Cycle Trail has scenic beauty, is easy and short and there are no technical challenges. It is a good addition to the list of mountain biking trails. This relatively new cycle trail is an ideal mountain biking trail for the whole family to enjoy. It is suitable for family and inexperienced riders. You can enjoy panoramic views over the Cape Flats and Table View to the Hottentots Holland Mountains in the distance. The starting point for the Rhodes Estate Cycle Trail is a parking lot on the road that leads up to Rhodes Memorial from the M3. This is a circular route up and around ‘Plum Pudding Hill’, and ending back at the parking lot. 5.2 kilometers.
Cape of Good Hope Cycle Trail
Cape of Good Hope Cycle Trail is a circular route of 30 km. The starting is the Cape of Good Hope Gate and ending back at the Gate. The Gate to the Cape Point National Park is 50km from Cape Town. This cycle trail offers plenty of opportunities to view the game that is resident in the Cape Point National Park, including Eland and Bontebok. The route can be very windy and has scenic beauty and is suited to road bikes. The winding route is mostly along tar roads. The road passes beaches and rocky coast and is lined with fynbos, a protected flower biome, which is for the most part quite low and this allows for views from the edge of the Cape Peninsula along the entire route.
Helderberg
Helderberg Trails has some of the most magnificent views of any trail in South Africa. and with 4 different options to choose from, Helderberg caters for riders of all abilities and fitness levels. The trails are typically dry, dusty and very rocky, but super fun to ride. it’s also a favorite spot for downhill competitions. Helderberg is looking out over False Bay and the Table Mountain. The views from the top of the Helderberg Trails alone should convince you to ride the Helderberg Trails.
